One of the best things about Clark is the bright blue sky on a sunny day. Being a nocturne myself, I still get dazed when the sun hits almost every part of land my eyes can see. It’s amazing.
I was born, grew up in and learned almost every subculture reference Manila can bestow in my short 22 years (wrote this on my old bold when I was 22, fyi going 26 this 2019 👻). I decided to move when it got too much for me from the city that never sleeps.
You know the quote that every millennial now keeps on reposting? Now, as I look into it, there’s a part that resonates well with me:
You will defy that fear of change. Hold your head high and do what once was unthinkable, walk away. And it will be scary, at first. But I hope that you’ll find in the end that in the leave, you don’t find love, adventure or freedom. More than anything, you find you.anonymous
That’s me. I did that. And I’ve never been prouder of myself. I know my stay will probably be just for a short period of time but I’ve learned a lot and gained a lot from getting up the courage to live in this quiet, proud and beautiful piece of the islands.
I love to walk. And when I say love, I do not exaggerate. When most of my colleagues opt to do carpools or ride the jeepney, I walk. If I feel safe, I walk. If I have leftover merienda (translation: afternoon snack), I walk. Whenever I feel a little overwhelmed for the day, I walk. Whenever I feel too happy, I walk.
It’s probably a weird quirk (since Clark is not the place you would want to walk for an hour or so 😉 or the place you would want to be stuck when it gets dark) but it keeps me sane. It connects me with nature and helps me to not wish too much for the weekends to come sooner. Please, we all know the struggle.
Adventures need not be the big ones that you take. Sometimes, it’s just getting up in the mornings and brewing yourself a cup of coffee or drinking tea. It can be starting a new project or hobby, maybe saying yes to a new date, trying that new lipstick, answering a scary email, picking up the phone to call your parents to tell them about how your day went or telling someone how you really feel for the first time. Every day is an adventure, no matter how fast or slowly it goes.
Everyday is an adventure to create something new that your future self can be proud of. Everyday is a chance for countless paradigm shifts that can alter how society acts and thinks. Everyday is an adventure to make the decision to be kinder and wiser.
Choose your adventure, make your everyday worthwhile.
